How our estimates work

  1. Measure

Enter sizes in feet or metres. Each calculator says what to measure and where to measure it.

  2. Get quantities

Area and volume become what shops sell: cans, boxes, bags, sheets, rolls and litres.

  3. Add your prices

Example prices for five regions, empty price fields everywhere else. Your own prices give your own budget.

  4. Keep a buffer

Waste allowances stay visible and editable. Use the result to brief licensed pros and compare quotes.

Why plan costs before you spend

Most home projects go over budget for one of two reasons: the quantities were guessed, or the prices were. CostPulse Hub tackles the first problem directly. Each calculator turns a few measurements into the amounts you actually buy, from cans of paint and boxes of flooring to bags of concrete, bundles of shingles and litres of fuel, with the waste allowance shown openly so you can change it.

Prices are the second problem, and we treat them with care. For the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, the eurozone and Australia, calculators start with example prices in the local currency, and the fuel and electricity tools use published averages with the source and date beside them. Everywhere else the price fields start empty. We never convert US prices into rupees, dirhams or pesos, because a bag of cement or a litre of paint does not cost the same once the currency is swapped. Type the price from your local store and every cost line fills in.

The site is written for the US, UK and Canada first. Product sizes, terms and examples follow those markets, such as 4 × 8 ft drywall sheets, 80 lb concrete bags, emulsion tins and 3.78 L paint cans. Switch to metric in the header and every calculator converts your numbers instead of clearing them. The fuel tools also handle UK miles per gallon, which uses a larger gallon than the US one.

The car section covers what a vehicle costs once you own it: fuel for a trip, charging an electric car, leasing against financing, depreciation and the full cost of ownership per month and per mile or kilometre.

Every calculator shows its formula and a worked example that matches its own output, so you can check the arithmetic. Nothing you type is sent anywhere: the maths runs in your browser, and a share link simply carries your inputs in the address bar.

These are planning estimates, not quotes. Codes, permits, site conditions and labour rates vary, and electrical, gas, roofing and structural work belongs with licensed professionals. Use the numbers to set a budget and to ask contractors sharper questions.
